Chinese traditional musical instruments play Tchaikovsky Violin Con
Pretty amazing. I cannot imagine a 2 string erhu can match a 4 string violin. There must be some notes a erhu cannot reach where a violin can. The video was taken in what seems to me a basement. The orchestral music must be played from a CD. I thought he was a fraud. So I googled him and Wikipedia says he is for real. He is recognized and has been awarded a few times. He also works at Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music as a .... what else .... erhu instructor.
This most beautiful violin concerto composed by Tchaikovsky (first movement) was played by George Gao using Erhu (二胡) - a traditional Chinese musical instrument with 2 strings. This instrument, a member of the Hu Qin (胡琴) instrument family originated in a northern China ethnic minority tribe and became popular in Tang Dynasty (唐朝 600-900 AD).
By George, he's got it. Enjoy the music and his talent.
The performer, George Gao, currently lives in Toronto. Watch how he shows off some erhu techniques in the cadenza.
